Acute Illness :Our office holds open appointments each day for acute illness. These appointments can often be made with the child's primary practitioner but if not than one of their colleagues. Nurses will evaluate the acute concern and schedule appointments as indicated. However any active patient can be seen if  parent requests.

Injuries : Many injuries can be safely and adequately evaluated in the office. Nurses will screen the calls and advise where and when the child should be seen (in office vs. Emergency Room). Lacerations require referral to Fast Track in the ER if suturing is potentially needed.

Health Maintenance Visits: The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends routine health care visits for newborns two days after hospital discharge and at 2 weeks of age. Infants are seen at 2,4,6,9 and 12 months of age. Toddlers at 15 and 18 months. At  age two visits are then recommended yearly through adolescence. More details about what these visits involve is available at www.healthychildren.org

School Physicals: New York State mandates physicals for all students in grades K, 2,4,7, and 10.  Physicals are also mandated for all new students to a school district and all student athletes annually. These physicals can be done by the child's primary practitioner or if not submitted will be done by the school physician. There must be a physical on file for every year to be considered an active patient at our office.

Developmental and Learning Concerns: Developmental evaluations are done routinely at Health Maintenance visits. Referral can be made for more evaluation and early intervention where appropriate. School performance is also reviewed at appropriate ages.  Concerns that arise between regularly scheduled visits can be addressed by making an appointment with the child's primary practitioner. Outside records if available should be provided for review.

Specialist Referrals: All aspects of your child’s healthcare are important and sometimes what they require are more specialized services. Not to worry, that is why your pediatric care team is here. If you are concerned your child needs to see a specialist:

  1. Make an appointment with your primary care provider.
  2. Discuss the area of concern so it can be properly evaluated for care.
  3. Your provider will place a specialist referral and an appointment will be set up for you.
  4. You will be notified via phone or mail.
  • Note: Make sure we have your current contact information as some specialists call families directly to schedule an appointment.

Behavioral Health Concerns : Behavioral changes occur for many different reasons and are important to address as soon as they are recognized. The changes can be short-term or go on for a longer period of time, which can introduce concerns for that person and their interpersonal relationships. An appointment can be made to discuss these concerns with your child's pediatrician. If/when the concerns are identified; the physician will follow the appropriate steps and make a referral if needed for your child. Clinton County Mental Health Therapists are available to see patients of this practice in our office on Mondays and Wednesdays by appointment. Our staff is here to:

  • Provide additional support to patients and families to assist in management of mental health, including but not limited to ADD, ADHD, depression, and anxiety.
  • Advocate for patients and families during times of crisis and stabilization.
  • Coordinate care with community outpatient services, such as Clinton County Mental Health and Behavioral Health Services North.

Palliative Care: Our Palliative Care team provides focused care for patients with any serious illness. The Palliative Care Specialist supports patients and their families with burdens in relation to their diagnosis. We attempt to bridge the communication between families and their Health Care Providers medically, socially, and financially.
